2026 Recipient

Rihanna Overton

The Burley Band has allowed me to have a sense of belonging, lasting friends and training for the future. I participated in concert band all 6 years, Jr. High Jazz band, and Marching Band for 4 years. I played flute throughout the years and picked up piccolo my senior year. The band gave me friends I am still close to even though they were a senior when I was a freshman. They gave me a family when I felt lonely and awkward. Band prepared me for the future with life lessons in discipline and leadership through my 2 years as Drum Major. It taught me that I love teaching others and helping them with passions of music. That's why I am grateful to further my education at Southern Utah University in Music Education.
